Tell me about skin tightening

Radio frequency (RF) therapy, also called radiofrequency skin tightening for loose skin, is a non-surgical method for tightening the skin. This can be anywhere from a non surgical facelift, just tightening your neck, or a lift of a saggy stomach after childbirth. The options seem limitless, so speak to us if you’re unsure and we will guide you..

The procedure involves using energy waves to warm up the deep layers of skin known as the dermis. This heat stimulates collagen production. Collagen is the most common protein in the body. It forms the frame of the skin and gives it firmness.

As you age, cells produce less collagen, resulting in sagging skin and wrinkles. Skin laxity typically occurs between 35 and 40 years of age when the quantity and quality of collagen decreases.

Questions & Answers

t

We have used RF therapy since 2001 to combat sagging skin and signs of ageing.

In this article, we’ll look at how this cosmetic therapy works for patients and what potential benefits it has for your skin.

How radiofrequency skin tightening works Thermalift was the first type of RF available for skin tightening, but now many companies offer similar technologies including our very own Lynton Lasers ProMax Lipo machine which is top of the range, so much so the NHS use it.

Our technology sends RF (radiofrequency) waves to heat the deep layer of skin to a temperature suitable for the specific area of your body that we are targeting. Some areas require a different temperature to others.

We do this for between 3 and 5 minutes. This causes your body to release heat shock proteins. These proteins stimulate the body to create new collagen fibres.

The procedure usually lasts less than an hour and should be practically painless experienc

What are high frequency waves?

RF waves are a form of radiation. Radiation is the release of energy in the form of electromagnetic waves. It can be classified as low energy or high energy based on the amount of energy released. X-rays and gamma rays are examples of high-energy radiation, while RF waves are considered low energy. Radio waves, WiFi and microwave are all forms of RF waves. The form of radiation used in RF skinlift releases about a billion times less energy than X-rays.

Risks of High-Frequency Skin Tightening for loose skin are minimal, but include:

RF skinlift is generally considered safe when performed by a trained and certified advanced practitioner, using top of the range specialist equipment as we are at Essential Feeling, Romford, Essex.

If the procedure is performed incorrectly, it is possible to get burned, so if you don’t go with us, then please check the credentials of your therapist.

Some of the most common side effects include:

transient swelling

redness

tingling

People with darker skin may at increased risk of side effects from laser and RF treatments.

The form of RF radiation used in this process is similar to the type of radiation emitted by other common appliances, such as mobile phones or Wi-Fi. There is no conclusive evidence that the long-term use of low-energy radiation poses a risk to human health.

Potential Benefits
The major benefits of radiofrequency therapy are to tighten the skin and eliminate wrinkles.

However, RF therapy can also help combat sun damage, as it can stimulate collagen production.

Fight against sun damage

Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause collagen fibers in the skin to disintegrate and disorganize. A 2011 study revealed that 3-month RF treatment resulted in clinically significant improvements in a small group of people with mild to moderate signs of sun damage.

Body sculpting

RF body contouring therapy can help firm your body’s loose skin by stimulating collagen production. This affects your skin’s look and feel because the change is real. These aren’t superficial types of therapy.

A 2017 study revealed that 24 of the 25 people who had undergone 5 to 8 radiofrequency therapy sessions noted an improvement in their body shape. Twenty-three people were satisfied with their results.

Facial contouring and Non Surgical Facelift/ nonsurgical facelift

A small studio studied the effects of RF in combination with pulsed electromagnetic treatment for 8 weeks. Researchers found significant improvement in facial skin sagging in the 11 participants, and 73 percent of them showed improvements in facial contour. So if you’re looking to improve your jawline naturally with minimal discomfort throughout, we can provide you with a recommended solution.

Wrinkles and Fine Lines

A 2018 study investigated the effect of RF therapy on eye wrinkles in 70 middle-aged women.

Researchers found that three treatments over 6 weeks significantly reduced their wrinkles. We can use RF for slimming RF treatment as a non-surgical method for slimming the face.

A 2017 study examined the effect of using RF therapy to reduce fat on the lower part of the face by 14 middle-aged Asian women.

After 5 weeks, over 90 percent of women suffered fat loss and 60 percent were satisfied or very satisfied with their results. The only side effect observed was a slight redness a few hours after the procedure.

Cost of radiofrequency skin tightening

The price of radiofrequency therapy for loose skin may vary depending by the part of your body where you are being treated. The price is usually between £250 and £2000.

A stomach treatment would be around 360 pounds sterling for 6 sessions covering an A4 size piece.

However, this depends on your starting point, so consultation is so important.

Your cost will depend on several factors, including:
  • What kind of treatment you choose, i.e. where you want it and what you want, wrinkle reduction, fat reduction, cellulite removal, etc. This affects how many devices we need to use and how much time it takes.
  • how many appointments you need
  • how many areas of skin you are targeting
  • what you expect for your results

Insurers consider skin tightening for loose skin as cosmetic so they rarely cover this. But if we’re using the vacuum suction for lymphatic drainage, then speak to your provider in case your policy covers it as they may count this as medical.

How does it work?

With age, the quantity and quality of collagen fibres in the skin decreases. RF therapy uses low-energy radiation to heat the deep layer of skin called the dermis.

This heat stimulates collagen and elastin production to smooth visible signs of wrinkles and sagging skin by restoring elasticity. Research has shown that RF therapy is generally safe and can effectively treat mild or moderate signs of aging. Then our state-of-the-art machine uses bi polar and multi polar radio frequencies so you benefit from the best and most appropriate technology for the structure of the skin you’re looking to be tightened.

Non invasive cosmetic procedures

Non-surgical skin tightening and lifting procedures are cosmetic treatments to change the appearance of the face and stomach. We can also use them to reduce noticeable fine lines and wrinkles thus adding the appearance of volume.

These procedures are much less invasive than surgical options such as facelifts and abdominoplasty, and we’ve seen clients achieve similar results. So if you’ve lost a lot of weight and have loose skin you’d like to tighten, radiofrequency (RF therapy) is a popular option.

There are also fewer risks of complications, it is cheaper and there is no recovery, literally no downtime. Zero. So after care is easy!

Does it work? Official research

N

These studies suggest that people have firmer skin.

The limited amount of official research we do on non-invasive skinlift treatments suggests these treatments work.

A 2015 review of the medical literature on radiofrequency techniques revealed that 96 percent of studies concluded radiofrequency had significant results.

There’s an older study, published in 2011, concluded that radiofrequency is an effective way to reduce facial wrinkles.

Then another 2011 study concluded that a consumer handheld device using radio frequency waves to tighten the skin is effective, the issue is not all are safe.

However, more recently, a 2017 study with 25 participants concluded that radiofrequency-based skin tightening methods were effective on loose skin after five to eight treatments. Participants also had very high satisfaction rates in their results. The results are lasting too. You continue to age from the point you have rolled back to, so you’ll save money on future Botox injections and serum, if you’re a candidate for these.

So, if you’re looking at knocking off a few inches here and there, then there’s now a good, reliable, proven alternative to avoid liposuction. Why would you want to go under the surgeon’s knife with plastic surgery if you don’t need to?
