What is Couples Massage Therapy?
Enjoy the therapeutic relaxation of the bodywork you’d get in a spa with your partner, but have a massage tailored to your unique needs. Essential Feeling will always work to reduce the tension in your muscles and your head with an exceptional customised massage treatment, personalised to have a significant effect on your overall health and wellbeing.
Come along for a massage and rejuvenate in our studio at the same time as your partner and both of you will come out feeling as refreshed and relaxed as each other without the hassle of hanging around and waiting. Sharing is a way to connect and the process of doing this while a qualified massage therapist eases the tightness from your shoulders offers a deeper level of the luxury of connecting.
By having a couple’s massage therapy you can share the relaxing benefits with someone special that you care about and it can also be surprisingly romantic. A couple’s massage therapy is also a great way to have your first massage if you’re feeling a little nervous about the whole experience. With your partner having a massage at the same time where you can see and talk to them if you like, you have the support of someone that you trust and care about whilst you embark on this new experience.

Questions & Answers
Do I have to have the same massage as my partner?
Never. What suits your partner may not work for you. It’s common for one person to have a relaxing massage such as a Swedish massage which has a more light touch. During this style of massage we may include a hand massage, or facial. We designed it for you to switch off and drift away.
Another person, may be more inclined towards a professional healing deep tissue massage. We’re trained therapists, adept at adjusting your session to your needs, so if you find during the massage that you’d like more of a deep tissue couples massage therapy, then you just need to say. Likewise, if one person in the couple would prefer to have a reflexology session, then just let us know before you arrive.
I’d like to come with my friend, is that OK?
Whilst we call this a couples massage therapy, really its for anyone that would like to share a relaxation space and experience the pleasure of massage with another person – who you come along with is entirely up to you. In fact, having a massage can be a great way to spend time with someone that you don’t see very often if you’re traveling and just passing through, for instance, then this is relaxing but also quality time for both of you.
You get to catch up in an environment where you escape all other distractions. And all at the same time as receiving a complete and effective restorative therapy in a tranquil environment conducive to the ultimate relaxation. Our expert hands will work around your individual needs, working out knots or loosening joints as you feel necessary.
I’d like a different kind of massage to my partner, is that OK?
There is absolutely no need at all for you to have the same type of massage, very often our lives are such that we will actually benefit from different types of massage at different times as well. We have different lives, different stresses and our mind, body and spirit will need different ways to ease and balance the stress of everyday life.
At Essential Feeling in Romford, you book the time with your therapist at Essential Feeling and then the type of massage that you receive during this time is entirely up to you.

What should I do whilst having my couples massage therapy? This is up to you and your partner. You can have the door to the connecting room open if you choose to leave it free for conversation or chatter, or if you prefer to zone out then it’s perfectly fine to arrive together and have your massage treatments completely on your own. Different styles can be more or less relaxing depending on the external pressures that we’re dealing with at any one time.
How often will I need a deep tissue massage?
Honestly and truly it depends on the state of the issue that we’re working with, there is no hard and fast rule.
Deep tissue massage is our signature therapy. We find most people will feel some relief from their pain and discomfort after their first session, but this isn’t necessarily going to be a long term fix. After 2 – 3 regular massage sessions you should feel your relief for longer, but for deep-rooted problems that have been ongoing for years, it can take some time. The good thing is though at Essential Feeling, because we’re open 7 days a week with appointments from 7 am to 10 pm, you can usually get a last-minute booking if you’re suffering, you don’t have to book something in advance that you might not need, nor do you need to suffer in silence.
One of us would like reflexology instead of 2 massages. Is that OK?
Of course. You just need to let us know beforehand so we can get you booked into the right rooms and you can both relax simultaneously with different wellness techniques that works for you as individuals. We can still leave the door open between the two spaces so you can communicate if you would prefer this.
What are the prices of the couples massage therapy?
The price is for our time, so the same as the rest of the massage therapies on our website. It’s 60 minutes minimum appointment time, the full details are on the bookings page.
If you have any questions, please text us on 07941 668456 and we’ll come back to you as soon as we’re free. To book online, please follow the online booking links below. We don’t cater for parties or over two people at a time.
Who will the massage therapists me that do my couples massage therapy?
You can read about each of your certified massage therapists here. If one of you is pregnant, that is fine, we are fully qualified in prenatal massage and pregnancy reflexology as well as other modalities. This is the area where you can also see our certificates.
Why would I not be able to have a couples massage therapy?
A few pre-existing medical conditions mean that a massage wouldn’t be the best form of holistic therapy at that point in time. If this is the case, we’ll be able to advise you on an alternative course and can often provide that therapy instead.
The following conditions would not be suitable for a massage: Infectious skin disease, rash, or open wounds Immediately after surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, unless recommended by your doctor If you have a bruise, inflamed skin, unhealed wounds, tumours, abdominal hernia, or areas of recent fractures the massage will work around these areas If you are prone to blood clots, there is a risk of blood clots being dislodged If you have heart disease, check with your doctor before having a massage Pregnant ladies should check with their doctor first if they are considering getting a massage
Please Note:
Massage is a totally safe and complementary treatment (it does not replace medical treatment). If you are in any doubt at all, please consult with your GP prior to treatment.

How will I feel after my massage?
You could feel tired and generally relaxed, you could even feel emotional as everyone is different and it can hit people differently from one time to another. Depending on the pressure that we’ve agreed we’ll use during your massage consultation, you may feel a little bruised for a few days whilst your tissue heals again following your session. However, most people do feel full of energy after a massage, it’s like rejuvenation.
