What is the deep tissue massage for men?
While we’ve called this therapy the deep tissue massage for men, women are more than welcome to come along too. The reason that we have been specific here is because many men can’t find a deep tissue massage therapist who is both professionally qualified and strong and able enough to work them deep enough. We pride ourselves at Essential Feeling on giving great deep tissue massages that help your body to heal naturally. Many therapists don’t work with men, so it can be hard to find a place that does a deep tissue massage for men. However, Charlie, our male therapist, is not only built for working on men of all sizes, he is also well trained and incredibly experienced in deep tissue massage. Most of our clients are men who return time and again for a great deep tissue/ sports massage therapy.
So, as a man am I OK to get a deep tissue massage with Essential Feeling?
Yes of course. We welcome you.

Questions & Answers
How does deep tissue massage work?
It’s a massage technique that we use to treat musculoskeletal issues, e.g. strains and injuries from sports or repeatedly putting our body through the strain of being in the wrong working position. The treatment involves applying sustained pressure. We use slow and deep strokes to penetrate to the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. This results in the tight areas breaking down and then reforming correctly. This is safe if you suffer from conditions of the spine such as scoliosis.
What are the benefits of deep tissue massage?
Straight up, if you’re looking for a relaxing hour then deep tissue massage/ sports massage isn’t for you. Unlike these more relaxing techniques, deep tissue massage helps to treat muscle pain and improve stiffness. Afterwards, you feel great as you can move again and your blood is flowing. But, be under no illusion, the hour itself is about gritting your teeth and knowing it will be worth it on the other side. A study in 2014 involved 59 participants. It determined that deep tissue massage helped to reduce pain in people with chronic low back pain and likened its results to taking an anti-inflammatory pill such as ibuprofen.

What are well known benefits of deep tissue massage?
This therapy is great for many issues, but some of the more well known are: sports injuries, sciatica, fibromyalgia, plantar fasciitis, high blood pressure, tennis and golfers elbow.
Who does the massage?
It is done by our resident massage therapist, Charlie. You can find out more about him on our meet the therapist page.
I’m in. How much are the sessions?
As with all our treatments, you pay for our time; the prices are on the booking page. 1 hour is the minimum period we provide because it’s impossible for us to do the great job we’ve become known for in less time. This allows your therapist to work one key area, such as back neck and shoulders OR legs. If you want more, that’s fine, we can then cover more of your body. 1.5 hours is enough to do 2 key areas well, e.g. back shoulders and neck, and legs. 2 hours is long enough for your full body.
