Reduce aches and pains with a quality deep tissue massage
What is deep tissue massage?
Deep tissue massage is like sports massage. It is a method of massaging that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. This kind of massage aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through firm and slow strokes and deep pressure on the tighter areas, either going across or following the fibres of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

Questions & Answers
What is the purpose of this massage?
The purpose is to “unstick” the fibres of a muscle using deep pressure. This allows your muscles to reform correctly restoring natural balance to your body which helps to remove toxins as your body is operating more effectively again. All this whilst relaxing and soothing your muscles. It is both therapeutic and corrective.
What is the difference between a sports massage and deep tissue?
Both massages work in similar ways in that they work injuries by using deep pressure to break muscles down so that they can reform in a corrective state. However, a sports massage usually only works the problem area. A deep tissue massage works everything around the area meaning that muscles either side that have been pulled out of alignment by your sports injury or even just sports activity will also be corrected. We think this leads to a better end results.
Should I have a sports massage after a workout?
Yes it is a great idea. We all know we should stretch after exercise. This taking it one step further and particularly if you have done an intensive programme of exercise a marathon or triathlon. If you’re interested in this, have a look at our triathlon massage page.

Is this the same as a Thai massage?
No, a Thai massage is done completely clothed and stretches your muscles a little like yoga. This massage uses oil to glide over the skin in the same way we would if we were doing a Swedish massage that most people know about, except that the pressure in the deep tissue massage is greater and your massage therapist will use their arms and elbows to massage you with.
What’s trigger point therapy?
This is where we use a sustained pressure on one area that feels like a little pea under the surface of your skin. This is like a junction box which sends messages to other areas of your body to begin relaxation.
Do you offer Indian head massage or foot massage in the deep tissue?
We can do, but normally it’s not required. This is the benefit of booking an appointment with Essential Feeling though, we can tailor your treatment to your specific needs. If you need deep tissue work in some areas, e.g. back massage and then want a relaxing massage on your head at the end, then we can do that because you’re paying for our time not the style of massage.
Are you a spa or a salon?
No. We have therapy rooms located in Romford Essex. They are lovely, it’s not like visiting a doctor as some physio places are, but we have to be honest, our professional massage therapist’s are qualified, and specialise in, remedial body work and rehabilitation care, so their sole focus in on fixing you and helping you feel better.

Is Sport’s massage the same as deep tissue?
There are slight differences as we’ve noted above, but a sports massage incorporates deep massage strokes during your session, so other than increased benefits, there are negligible differences.
