MLD is the abbreviation for manual lymphatic drainage. It often has massage tagged on the end too. It’s a form of massage which uses light pumping movements to move lymph fluid around your body which enables you to detoxify and reduces swelling (among other things).
MLD is often recommended by doctors post surgery as it helps you to heal, particularly if you’ve had liposuction and are suffering from an excess of swelling or fatty spots. It’s often scary when the doctor mentions a massage though because this is when you are feeling the most tender. However, because this is such a gentle movement it’s really relaxing. The worst part is getting on and off the massage table and in and out of those compression garments!
