What is deep tissue massage?
Deep tissue massage is like sports massage. It is a method of massaging that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. This kind of massage that we run from our clinic in Romford, Essex, aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through firm and slow strokes and deep pressure on the tighter areas, either going across or following the fibres of the muscles, tendons and fascia.

Questions & Answers
On what what part of me can I have this treatment?
Pretty much any area of your body. A lot of people use it to ease shoulder pain or neck pain whilst having a back massage, but it can be used on legs, arms and so on.
What is the purpose of this massage?
The purpose is to “unstick” the fibres of a muscle using deep pressure. This allows your muscles to reform correctly, restoring natural balance to your body which helps to remove toxins as your body is operating more effectively again. All this whilst relaxing and soothing your muscles. It is both therapeutic and corrective.
What is the difference between a sports massage and deep tissue?
Both massages work in similar ways in that they work injuries by using deep the pressure to break muscles down so that they can reform in a corrective state. However, a sports massage usually only works in the problem area. A deep tissue massage works everything around the area meaning that muscles either the side that has been pulled out of alignment by your sports injury or even just sports activity will also be corrected. We think this leads to a better end results.

Is sports massage the same as deep tissue?
There are slight differences as we’ve noted above, but a sports massage incorporates deep massage strokes during your session, so other than increased benefits, there are negligible differences.
Should I have a sports massage after a workout?
Yes it is a great idea. We all know we should stretch after exercise. This is taking it one step further and particularly if you have done an intensive program of exercise a marathon or triathlon. If you’re interested in this, have a look at our triathlon massage page.
Sports massage any more painful than deep tissue?
No, both use deep massage strokes to break down your muscles and thus injuries. The combination of working in an area that is tender with deep strokes can mean that it is painful, but this will only last a few days
Who will treat me?
Generally, Charlton will be your massage therapist. Check out our reviews page to see customers say about him.
What will happen during the treatment?
Your body will be covered at all times with towels, with the exception of the area you are having worked of course! Your modesty will be maintained at all times throughout your massage treatment.
We may make a judgement call on whether deep oscillation therapy will be of benefit to you and if so we may use this as part of your treatment protocol. Equally, we may also use ultrasonic cavitation.
What do I do during a massage therapy treatment?
First of all make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, he will either ask you to move as necessary or move you. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. A Deep tissue massage Romford Essex is not relaxing as it’s aimed to correct tissue damage—therefore you may feel some interim pain during your treatment. If this is unbearable, please let your therapist know and he will adapt your treatment.
Freeing muscles during a deep tissue massage means that toxins the bulk of your tight muscles blocked toxins which are now floating around. As your body sends energy to eradicate this influx of toxins, it gains this energy by cutting back on other unnecessary things, such as temperature control. You may, therefore, feel the cold more than normal, so please say if you feel chilly. Please also say if the pressure is too heavy or light. Everyone is different.
How will I feel after?
You may feel relaxed or tired after your massage, or even emotional. Yet most people usually feel full of energy and rejuvenated. You may experience some pains and aches for around 24 hours after your session as your body flushes out toxins released. In order to speed this process along, drink lots of water after your massage.
How often will I need a deep tissue massage?
Most likely 2 or 3 treatments will be sufficient to achieve longer-lasting relief from most conditions. However, this will be dependent on your problem & your lifestyle and some people may require further treatments. We do encourage you to return occasionally for maintenance treatments.
Why would I not be able to have a massage?
Few conditions mean massage isn’t ideal for you. There are other therapies, such as spinal reflexology, that would be more suitable and we can help you make the best choice. The following conditions would not be suitable: Infectious skin disease, rash, or open wounds. Immediately after surgery, immediately after chemotherapy or radiation. Unless recommended by your doctor.
If you susceptible to blood clots as the clots risk being displaced. Or have heart disease, check with your doctor beforehand.
Pregnant women should check with their doctor if they are considering getting a massage- we are qualified in pregnancy massage.
If you have a bruise, inflamed skin, unhealed wounds, tumors, abdominal hernia, or areas of recent fractures, the massage will work around these areas.
Please Note:
Deep tissue massage Romford Essex are experts in the field of massage. This is a totally safe treatment complementary to other therapies (it does not replace medical treatment). If you have doubts, please speak to your GP before coming along.

I’d like a full body massage is this possible?
Yes, it is, but if you need a full-body then you need to book a 2-hour appointment. The process of a deep tissue massage means that we have to warm up your muscles before we can work them deeply.
This means that it takes time. 1 hour is suitable for an area such as a back massage which will work on neck pain, shoulder pain and back pain. Depending on how bad you are, you could get your legs included if you have a 1.5-hour appointment.

Checklist
I’m not sure if this is the right one for me?
That’s OK. You’re not tied into a specific form of massage. We train our therapist in many massage styles and will recommend which types are best for your needs. You can book an hour or more with us and we’ll tailor your program to your needs within your allocated appointment time.
Is there a consultation process?
Yes. If you have access to the internet, we’ll send you a consultation form via email to complete before you come along for your massage sessions. Thus, you will detail any conditions you have such as aches, pains, allergies. This form will remain strictly confidential between you and your therapist. You will need to sign the form to confirm that you are happy to go ahead with the treatment. When you arrive, we’ll chat through your consultation form to understand what you would like to get out of your course of massage and define any areas that will need additional treatment.
Where will I be treated?
We will conduct your massage sessions in a calm, comfortable treatment room with soft lighting.
After your consultation, your therapist will show you to your treatment room where you will undress to your lower underwear whilst the therapist is out of the room.
You will then lie on the bed, cover yourself with some towels & when you call to say you are ready, your therapist re-enter the treatment room.
