Botox injections are one of the most common outpatient procedures for crow’s feet. These facial wrinkles are fan-shaped formations that develop near the outer corners of the eyes. It’s difficult to treat them with home methods.
Despite the effectiveness of Botox treatments, there is a lot of information that needs to be considered before choosing these injections.
Cost, frequency, and risk factors are just some concerns you need to think about.
How does Botox work?
Botox is a muscle relaxant treatment. It is used for a variety of medical purposes, including eye spasms and excessive sweating. The injections prevent nerve signals from reaching the muscles so they don’t contract as often.
Cosmetic Botox for wrinkles is by far the most common use of the product, according to Mayo Clinic. When used for crow’s feet, a qualified practitioner will use injections relax the muscles around the corners of the eyes and soften the skin. The effects can be especially noticeable when you laugh.
What to expect when you are done Botox Cosmetic is injected around the crow’s feet with fine needles. Even if you tolerate injections well, your doctor will probably recommend a topical anesthetic, such as ice, to numb the area first.
As soon as the skin around the eyes is numb, the doctor will start the injection process. Since crow’s feet cover a small area of the face, the treatment itself takes only a few minutes. The procedure may take longer if you want to combine other methods of treatment with Botox injections. Sometimes laser treatments are used with Botox for crow’s feet.
Your doctor only needs a few Botox units, perhaps 10 units for eye wrinkles. They divide them in half, so you have five units for each page. Allergan, the manufacturer of Botox Cosmetic, recommends 24 units for optimal treatment of crow’s feet.
Is it effective?
According to the Mayo Clinic, Botox injections take about three days to produce noticeable results around the eyes. The muscles around the eyes can relax after a few days. Results usually take three to four months to complete. To keep your eyes soft, you will need to see your doctor every few months for follow-up injections. In a 2016
A of 1362 patients who used Botox for crow’s feet, the results lasted at least four months.
Recovery Program Botox
Recovery time is short compared to other cosmetic procedures, but it isn’t immediate like RF therapy (see below). Unless you notice side effects in the health care provider’s office, you can go home right after the injections. Recovery at home is also easy. You can do makeup and wash your face on the same day. You can even go back to work. However, be careful not to rub the skin around the eyes. This may cause the medicine to move away from the crow’s feet.
Possible side effects of Botox to be aware of
For many people with fine lines surrounding their eyes, Botox may seem like the most viable option because of its effectiveness and short recovery time. However, side effects are still possible. More serious risks are rare, but you should still discuss them with your doctor ahead of time.
Dermatological surgery reports mild-to-moderate side effects in most people who use Botox for crow’s feet. As soon as you leave your healthcare provider’s office, you may notice a small amount of redness and swelling around your eyes. Minor bruising is also possible. These effects occur if the doctor has injected Botox into the muscles around the eyes.
You should not experience widespread inflammation. Other possible side effects include: excessive tearing of the eyes, dryness (especially around the injection site), drooping eyelids, crooked eyebrows, headache If you experience any of the following rare but serious side effects, seek immediate medical attention: loss of breath or vision problems when swallowing food and drink Once you have used Botox, it is important that you adhere to it for the best results.
There are other types of drugs that have similar effects, such as myobloc, dysport, and xeomin. However, these drugs cannot be used interchangeably because they all differ slightly in strength and dosage.
Other options for crow’s feet
It’s important to talk to your healthcare provider about all the pros and cons of Botox Cosmetic. You can also discuss alternative treatments for crow’s feet, such as:
- chemical peels
- dermabrasion
- dermal fillers, like Juvederm
- laser treatments
- prescription retinoids
- Radio Frequency — our personal favourite
Why do you prefer Radiof Frequency (RF therapy) to Botox?
The area surrounding your eyes is delicate. But we apply a gentle heat to warm the lower layers of the skin, we stimulate your body into producing more collagen and elastin. So the treatment is natural, always a bonus.
Plus, on top of this your sessions are not only cheaper, but they are relaxing. Picture yourself having a facial with warm heat. That’s what we’re going for here, and then you walk out, with instant results on your crows feet, no downtime and yet naturally improved skin elasticity. Your face doesn’t look like rubber, you maintain your expressions and movement.
And your experienced therapist will have given you an hour to yourself.
RF therapy doesn’t just improve the appearance of lines, it is a natural skincare healer, so these lines no longer exist or at least are naturally reduced. It’s toxin free, we don’t use botulinum (Botox). So there’re no injections and radio frequency is totally non surgical, noninvasive.
Results are immediate with no side effects
Plus, we can extend the session into any area you like, so if you’d like to feel the visible effect on your frown lines, or just deal with the subtle effects of aging, reduce your double chin, and if you don’t want to go near a needle; this is the solution for you. Just tell us in your consultation so we book out enough time for you.
You can read all about radiofrequency on our other pages.
And it’s cheaper than Botox — did we mention that??
